Hello, I’m Julia

I’m half artist, half cognitive scientist, one-quarter wordsmith, one-eighth data scientist, one-sixteenth athlete, and one-sixteenth mathematician* who yes knows that this adds up to more than one. But as a left-brain-right-brained, lifelong learner who has always held roles that bridge disciplines, why limit myself?

I earned a Masters of Fine Arts degree in photography and mixed-media art before jumping into the Bay Area tech world and embarking on a career in digital design. I’ve designed websites, online ads, emails, social media images, white papers, and landing pages that have seen millions of visitors. I’ve crafted creative strategies, led design teams, analyzed A/B tests, launched digital products, and much much more.

At Ancestry.com I led the design team responsible for conversion – otherwise known as getting people to sign up and pay for subscriptions. I became an expert on the subtleties of description vs. brevity, explanation vs. clarity, claims vs. credibility, the impact of color and size, and more.

And now, I serve small and medium sized businesses, building them the websites they deserve—websites that look great and drive business results.

When I’m not designing websites and related assets, you can find me reading, hiking, photographing nature, and teaching skiing.

*Little-known fact: While I don’t perform very many actual math problems these days, aside from helping my son with his homework, I was truly and verifiably on the math team in high school.
